California State University-East Bay Athletics

The Cal State East Bay Pioneers are the only NCAA Division III athletics program in the California State University system. NCAA Division III sports include baseball, softball, women’s swimming, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s water polo. The Pioneers also compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (California Pacific Conference) in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s golf. In the last 45 years, the Pioneers have won six national collegiate championships, 77 conference championships, and produced 160 All-American student-athletes. In the most recent academic year, 9 of the 13 sports offered qualified for postseason competition. The University’s athletic facilities include the 4,500-seat Physical Education Complex gymnasium, training and weight rooms, two swimming pools, University Stadium, baseball and softball facilities, and a field house. The campus community is currently undergoing an election process for the new Cal State East Bay mascot. Most recently, Cal State East Bay’s women’s water polo team posted the best season in school history. They were runners-up in the National Championship, missing victory by only one goal. Seven of the University’s baseball players were to the All-Independent Team.

California State University, East Bay is an NCAA Division III School. It also is a member of the NAIA. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, and soccer. Women’s sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, volleyball, and water polo. The baseball, soccer, softball, swimming, volleyball, and water-polo teams compete in the NCAA Division III as independent teams. The other sports are in the California Pacific Conference of the NAIA. The team nick-name is the Pioneers.

p. The athletic program at CSU East Bay is a non-scholarship program. In the 2003-2004 season, nine of the teams qualified for post-season play. Facilities include a stadium, tennis courts, swimming pools, a gymnasium, a fieldhouse, and fields for softball and baseball.
